“Also, I wanted to put a lot of soul into it, you know? Kind of comparing music to food, I would say the goal was to stay as far away from fast food as possible and to focus on soul food. “Well, if you did get a chance to hear the EP, you know it kind of took on a more personal aspect and a more live music aspect as well, so just continuing those things,” he said. The New Orleans-born artist spoke about the album in an interview with Complex earlier this month, when he compared his new material to soul food. The 11-track project follows Lloyd’s 2011 King of Hearts and includes the four tracks from his 2016 Tru EP. After taking a time out for self-reflection and personal growth, the 32-year-old singer has released his long-awaited comeback album Tru.
